Florence-Darlington Technical College retained JMZ Architects and Planners to prepare their Academic Master Plan. The planning included a Comprehensive Environmental Scan; an Instructional Space Utilization Study; an Academic Plan; a Comprehensive Facilities Condition Assessment; and a Strategic Facilities Implementation Plan, which included master plan options, an implementation plan, the final master plan document, and a 3-D flyover of the main campus.
During the 11-month process, the planning team conducted interviews with administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of the community to document existing deficiencies and identify future needs based on anticipated enrollment growth of two percent per year. It suggested new academic programs to meet the needs of local and regional employers. The planning process was informed by the goals set forth in FDTC’s strategic plan and was guided by the College’s Steering Committee. The resulting 10-year plan provided a roadmap to help the College achieve academic excellence. The plan also recommended capital investments to advance the mission of the College and transform a collection of unrelated buildings and parking lots into a pedestrian-friendly learning environment.
