JMZ assisted Orange County Community College in the selection of this urban site with commanding views of the Hudson River. JMZ continued on with the design of the new Kaplan Hall and renovations of the nearby Tower Building.

The design of Kaplan Hall, a 90,000 s.f. academic building at the SUNY Orange Newburgh Branch Campus, incorporates green technologies in an urban setting. The building includes science and nursing laboratories, computer labs, classrooms, Learning Commons, student services and faculty offices. The 3-story building will sit atop a 3-level subterranean parking garage complete with a live green roof that will use captured rainwater for irrigation. The overall project also includes the full renovation of the college’s seven-story, 87,000 s.f. Tower Building. Renovations will result in a new criminal justice/forensics laboratory, general classrooms, faculty offices, bookstore, and fitness center. Both projects are designed to meet a LEED™ Silver rating, and are expected to garner the college $450,000 in energy grants.
